Actor-filmmaker Dhanush has reportedly been served a legal notice by production house Thenandal Films, seeking Rs 20 crore in compensation over a film project that was announced in 2016 but never completed.
According to the notice, Dhanush had agreed to direct and star in a film titled Naan Rudhran for the banner. However, the project failed to move forward, with the production house alleging that the actor later withdrew while assuring them he would make another film for the company instead.
Thenandal Films claimed it allegedly incurred losses of nearly Rs 20 crore, citing advance payments and pre-production expenses. These reportedly included remuneration paid to actors such as
Nagarjuna and SJ Suryah, who were attached to the project at the time.
The production house further alleged that the film was stalled due to Dhanush’s failure to submit a complete script and his decision to prioritise other professional commitments, leading to prolonged delays.
As per the legal notice, Dhanush has been asked to confirm within a week whether he will honour his earlier assurance by allotting dates before the end of 2025 to complete the project. If he fails to respond or comply, Thenandal Films has sought repayment of the amount spent along with an additional Rs 1 crore towards damages. The notice also warns of further legal action if the matter is not resolved.
