In a powerful appeal at a public event in Mumbai on Friday, actor Akshay Kumar urged Maharashtra's Chief Minister to introduce a weekly "Cyber Period" for students in classes 7 to 10. The actor narrated a distressing personal incident to highlight the growing threat of cybercrime, which he believes now surpasses traditional street crime.

During the inaugural ceremony of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the State Police Headquarters, Akshay Kumar shared a shocking incident involving his daughter to highlight the menace. He recalled how, a few months back, his daughter was playing an online video game when a stranger messaged her, asking for her gender. After she responded "female," the stranger immediately requested for nude pictures. His daughter promptly turned off the game and informed her mother, but the incident served as a stark lesson.

Emphasizing that such exchanges are a common entry point into cybercrime, Kumar stressed there was an

urgent need to educate children on how to protect themselves from online predators and threats. His plea for a mandatory "Cyber Period" aims to equip the next generation with the necessary knowledge to navigate the digital world safely.

"I want to tell you all a small incident which happened at my house a few months back. My daughter was playing a video game, and there are some video games that you can play with someone. You are playing with an unknown stranger," Akshay said.

"While you are playing, sometimes a message comes from there... Then a message came, Are you male or female? So she replied female. And then he sent a message. Can you send me nude pictures of yours? It was my daughter. She switched off the whole thing and she went and told my wife. This is how things begin. This is also a part of cybercrime... I would request the Chief Minister that in our Maharashtra state, every week in the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth," he added.
