The Bombay High Court has stepped in to protect the legacy of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle from unauthorized use by artificial intelligence platforms.

The court granted ad-interim relief to the legendary singer, effectively restraining AI companies, online marketplaces, and digital sellers from cloning her voice or misusing her image, likeness, and identity without her permission.

The 90-year-old musical icon had approached the court against

several offenders including Mayk Inc-an AI company allegedly offering voice clones of her likeness. Her plea highlighted the grave concern that such AI-driven misuse tarnishes the reputation and goodwill she has painstakingly built over the years.

Justice Arif S Doctor in his order, ruled in favour of Bhosle, stating that the balance of convenience lay entirely with the singer and issued strong directions against the unauthorized use of her persona by AI platforms and sellers.
