As tributes pour in for the late singer Zubeen Garg, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced a three-day period of state mourning, from September 20 to 22, 2025. During this time, all official entertainment, ceremonial events, and public celebrations across the state will remain suspended.
Essential service activities under Assam's ongoing 'Sewa Saptah' initiative will continue. However, all ceremonial and benefit-distribution programmes have been
postponed.
Earlier, the Chief Minister shared his condolences on social media, highlighting Zubeen's impact on Assamese culture and music. "Today, Assam lost one of its favourite sons. I am at a loss for words to describe what Zubeen meant to Assam," he wrote.
He further said, "Zubeen has gone too early, this was not an age to go. His voice had an unmatched ability to energise people and his music spoke directly to our minds and souls. He has left a void that will never be filled (sic).
