Anushka Sharma has been away from the big screen for over seven years, last appearing in 'Zero' (2018) alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. Her much-awaited comeback project, 'Chakda Xpress' a biopic on Indian cricket legend Jhulan Goswami -- wrapped filming in 2022 but never saw a release. Now, following the Indian women’s cricket team’s recent historic win, the makers are pushing for the film’s long-delayed premiere.
As reported by Mid-Day, the film’s producers have reached out to Netflix executives, urging them to move past prior creative disagreements and release 'Chakda Xpress'. “We have personally written to top executives at Netflix India to see if they can rise above the conflict so that the film can see the light of day. A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience,” a source cited by
the portal said.
The report further claims the film’s release had been stalled due to internal dissatisfaction at Netflix regarding how the final cut turned out. “The production house went over-budget. What added to the woes was that the platform heads didn’t like the way the project was shaping up. But it’s still a solid film," an insider added.
Currently, the streaming rights for 'Chakda Xpress' remain with Netflix. With renewed buzz following the women’s cricket team’s victory, discussions within the platform have reportedly resumed. “The recent victory has put the attention back on the biopic. Internal discussions at the streamer have started, and the team is expected to take a final pass this month to determine if it can be released after additional work," another source shared.
