Rumours about Race 4 have been gathering steam, especially with fans hoping for a reunion of original stars Akshaye Khanna and Saif Ali Khan. But while the fourth film in the hit action-thriller franchise is now in development, producer Ramesh Taurani has officially dismissed speculation around the returning cast.
With Akshaye Khanna coming off recent successful projects, chatter intensified about him being approached for the new film. Taurani, in an interview with HT City, shut down the rumour, saying, “No, we have not approached Akshaye. There was no scope at all.”
Some also wondered if the script could be altered to bring his character back. The producer was clear on that front too: “There is no thought about getting him. His character gets into an
accident in the first movie, his track ended there, and it will remain at that.”
Attention then shifted to Saif Ali Khan and Sidharth Malhotra, with speculation that both actors were locked in for the project. Taurani refuted that claim as well, adding, “No cast has been finalised till now. The work on the script is on.”
Over the years, the Race franchise has seen dramatic shake-ups in its core cast. John Abraham joined as the antagonist in the second film, while Salman Khan took over the lead in the third instalment, replacing Saif.
With scripting currently underway and no casting decisions made, fans will have to wait longer to find out who fronts Race 4 – a franchise known as much for its twists as its rotating ensemble.
