Bangladeshi film ‘Paayer Tolay Mati Nai’ (No Ground Beneath the Feet) directed by Mohammad Rabby Mridha has been included in the international competition section of the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held at Goa between 20-28 November.

‘Paayer Tolay Mati Nai’ is Bangladeshi director Mohammad Rabby Mridha’s feature debut. It stars Mostafa Monwar, Priyam Archi and Dipanita Martin. 

The film narrates the life story of an ordinary man who walks through conflicts in his life involving work, family and morality.

It tells the story of Saiful who is an ambulance driver in Dhaka. He experiences death on a daily basis but poverty is his biggest challenge as his family faces shrinking resources with river erosion destroying their land in the village. His second wife working abroad blames him for not buying a ticket to come back home. The film depicts the struggle of a person driven to the brink due to the stress caused by poverty further aggravated by



natural disasters caused by climate change. 

Earlier, this film was selected for the 26th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held at Haeundae, Busan in South Korea from 6-15 October. It was  included in the section named ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ of the festival.

Best of the feature length films from all over the world and selected to compete in the international competition section of IFFI. It is one of the most important sections of festivals that feature some of the best films of the year, said an official press release of IFFI.

‘Paayer Tolay Mati Nai’ will compete with 14 other films for the Golden Peacock and other awards like Best Director, Best Actor (male), Best Actor (female) and Special Jury Award of the festival. 

The best film in the category selected for the Golden Peacock award carries a cash prize of Rs. 40 lakh to be shared equally between the Director and Producer.
