Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has weighed in on the ongoing Don 3 controversy, criticising the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) for issuing a non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh. Calling the federation a “kangaroo court”, Varma questioned its authority to intervene in what he described as a dispute between two parties.

Reacting to the development on X, Ram Gopal Varma shared a lengthy post strongly criticising the federation's decision. “BAN ‘FWICE’ and not @RanveerOfficial. The so-called ‘BAN’ or non-cooperation in the style of Gandhiji, will eventually become a BIG FAT JOKE on FWICE. This isn’t industry or worker protection, like they are claiming. It is just pure performative muscle-flexing by an extremely outdated union system desperately trying to hold on to its grip (sic),” he wrote.

The filmmaker further argued that FWICE did not have

the authority to adjudicate such disputes and described it as a “kangaroo court”. “FWICE is neither a court of legal justice nor a government-authorised regulatory body and, at best, it’s a kangaroo court, which by definition pretends to deliver justice, but disregards established legal rules, due process and impartiality,” Varma continued.

Ram Gopal Varma also defended the role of actors in sustaining the film industry, arguing that stars remain the primary drivers of employment and box-office revenue.

“It is stars like @RanveerOfficial who sell tickets at theatres and not FWICE. It is stars like @RanveerOfficial who create employment for those lakhs of FWICE workers and not FWICE. It is only because stars like @RanveerOfficial exist that the industry exists, and also FWICE exists,” he wrote, adding that the matter should be treated as a civil dispute between the parties involved.
