Composer AR Rahman marked World Music Day by releasing a glimpse of a special song featuring legendary singer Asha Bhosle, recorded before her death in April 2026. The track, which is among the final recordings of Bhosle's illustrious career, brings together two of Indian music's most celebrated voices and serves as a tribute to her enduring legacy.

The song features vocals by both Rahman and Bhosle, along with musicians from Trinity Laban, the London-based conservatoire where the composer has served as Honorary President since 2024.

The collaboration holds special significance as it was recorded before Bhosle's death, making it one of the last additions to a career that spanned more than eight decades. Rather than serving as a farewell, the song has been conceived as a celebration of the legendary singer's immense contribution to Indian cinema and global music.

Sharing the teaser on social media, Rahman reflected on the project and its emotional significance.

“On this World Music Day, we celebrate a voice that has

transcended generations, languages, and borders. This tribute began as a dream while Asha Bhosle ji was still with us. We had hoped she would witness the love and gratitude this project carries," he wrote.

Rahman further spoke about the inspiration behind bringing together artists and musicians from different backgrounds for the tribute.

He said that while musical legends are celebrated around the world, India is fortunate to have had an artist like Asha Bhosle, whose voice became the soundtrack of countless lives.

Rahman shared that the idea behind the tribute was to bring together different musicians, traditions and sounds in order to celebrate her extraordinary legacy. Calling it a humble offering to the legendary singer, Rahman expressed hope that her music would continue to inspire generations to come.

The composer added that the teaser was a glimpse of the journey, while the full tribute would be unveiled soon. He also said he hoped audiences would receive the project with the same love and affection with which it was created.
