Amitabh Bachchan's Rs 15 crore Ayodhya property to become memorial for father Harivansh Rai

Actor Amitabh Bachchan is preparing to construct a memorial dharamshala in Ayodhya in memory of his father, Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan. An application seeking approval for the building map has been submitted to the Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA).

The proposed dharamshala, featuring over 20 rooms, will be built on land acquired for approximately Rs 15 crore within The Sarayu project along Dashrath Path.

The ADA has issued a public notice inviting objections to the submitted layout within a 15-day window, after which formal approval will be granted. Construction is expected to begin after clearance in October.

Ayodhya Development Authority Vice Chairman Anurag Jain said



that prominent figures across the country are contributing to Ayodhya's development. He confirmed that an application for a dharamshala map with over 20 rooms has been received from Amitabh Bachchan and is currently open for public objections. Jain added that following due process, the layout will be approved to provide better facilities for visiting devotees.

Bachchan’s father, Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a prominent Hindi poet and translator. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan, he is best known for his 1935 poem Madhushala and his translations of Shakespeare's plays into Hindi. His mother, Teji Bachchan, was a social activist and theatre performer who later served as a director of the Film Finance Corporation of India.
