Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has started shooting for Samuk, taking on a genre that marks a new territory for the actor. The film is being mounted as a pan-India theatrical project, with survival, action and alien mythology at its core. Directed by Kanishk Varma, the film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and co-produced by Aashin A Shah.

The project has reportedly been in development for more than two years, with the makers working on a world that combines military realism, survival horror and science-fiction elements.

For Shah, Samuk marks another collaboration with Akshay Kumar after more than a decade. Speaking about the project, he

said, "After a gap of 13 years, starting a new journey with Akshay Kumar today is a very, very joyful, happy and proud moment for all of us. The ambition to create something better and bigger every single time with Akshay Sir has been the hallmark of our journey. We have challenged each other in many ways to keep pushing ourselves and do better, and this time, the challenge is bigger than ever. I hope we create something together that people will absolutely love."

The producer has worked across genres including thrillers, family dramas, romance, comedy and action. With Samuk, the focus shifts towards an alien survival story that requires extensive creature and action work.
