The University of Liverpool has officially become the second UK university to set up a campus in India, following in the footsteps of the University of Southampton. The institution will establish its new international campus in Bangalore, further strengthening academic ties between India and the UK.

To mark this milestone, a Letter of Intent (LoI) handover ceremony is being held today at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi from 10 am to 11 am. The event is being presided over by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Dr. Vineet Joshi, Interim Chair of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, is also in attendance.

The move is seen as a significant step in boosting cross-border

collaboration in higher education, fostering joint research initiatives, and expanding opportunities for student and faculty exchange.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Tim Jones, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, said, “This milestone reflects the support of Prime Minister Modi, who is committed to expanding access to world-class education. We’re excited to be part of India’s thriving academic and innovation ecosystem. With Bangalore being home to global enterprises and top-tier talent, our new campus is positioned to drive positive economic and educational impact.”

The University of Liverpool’s expansion into India signifies growing global interest in the country as a hub for international education and innovation.
