The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a strong advisory after a fake notice began making the rounds, falsely claiming that all university examinations across India had been cancelled due to a "war-like situation." The fabricated notice, which was widely circulated on social media, also misled students by urging them to return home.

The clarification came shortly after India launched targeted airstrikes under Operation Sindoor, aimed at eliminating terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

These strikes followed the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, believed to have been orchestrated by members of

Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

"A fabricated public notice is being circulated under the name of UGC, claiming that all exams are cancelled due to a war situation and advising students to return home. UGC confirms this notice is fake. There are no such directions from UGC."

The commission emphasised that all official announcements will only be made via the UGC website and its verified social media handles. It also warned that spreading misinformation is a punishable offence under Indian law.

"Don’t fall prey to false information. Stay vigilant and refer only to official UGC sources," the statement added.
