Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Tuesday claimed that the State Government was implementing the KG to PG free education plan across the Telangana State.

Replying to a question raised by TDP MLA R. Krishnaiah during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly, the Deputy CM informed that as against 298 residential schools which were established in the State since independence, the State Government started 529 such institutions for various communities during the last two-and-a-half years.

Giving the breakup of residential schools, he said that the government had established 104 residential schools for SCs and 30 new Residential Degree Colleges exclusively for SC Women.

Similarly, 51 residential schools for STs, four residential schools for BCs, one Residential Junior College for BCs, upgradation of 18 Residential Junior Colleges for BCs, one new Residential Degree College for BC Women and 71 new residential schools for minorities have been established.

He said there was a proposal to start 119 new residential schools for BCs and 130 schools for minorities in the Academic Year 2017-18.

The Deputy CM said there would at least one residential school in each of 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana State. He said that the process of identification of land



for the construction of permanent building was on.

He said that the District Collectors concerned have been assigned the task of appointing Teaching and non-Teaching staff for residential schools. He said that the State Government has already upgraded about 5,000 primary schools by introducing modern and English-medium education.

He said another 5,000 primary schools would be upgraded soon. He said nearly 7 lakh students were studying in English medium residential schools across the State.

Kadiam also informed that six Government Junior Colleges and nine Government Degree Colleges have started in the State after 2014.

However, no private unaided/aided junior and degree colleges were started since the Academic Year 2014-15. He also said that no government junior or degree colleges closed down due to lack of funds.

No private vocational junior colleges approached the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education for closure since 2014-15.

The Deputy CM said students studying in Government/Residential Junior Colleges were identified subject wise and special coaching classes were conducted to improve their results in NEET/EAMCET/ other competitive exams with relevant reference books/model question papers, etc.,
