The State government will soon establish exclusive residential degree colleges for women in Hyderabad and elsewhere, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister, Kadiam Srihari on Monday said.

The Deputy CM, in a review meeting said that residential degree colleges meant exclusively for SC, ST, BC and minority students are also being planned. A common academic calendar, hostel menu for residential stay and boarding facilities are being chalked-out for this academic year.

The Minister directed officials to plan for separate tribal degree residential colleges located in regions where the tribal population is high. Authorities are planning to set up such residential colleges for women in all the revenue divisions in the State.The courses that will be offered in the residential colleges will be job-oriented and stress will be laid on skill development so that women are



‘industry ready’ after successfully passing-out, the Deputy Chief Minister said.

“A committee has been set up to prepare a draft curriculum for such colleges in a fortnight. It will also study employment opportunities in veterinary, nursing and IT sectors,” he said.

In the review, the Deputy Chief Minister directed officials to strengthen Telangana Study Circle and pointed out that an IAS officer should be given charge.“Apart from coaching IAS aspirants, all the study circles should provide coaching for State level competitions,” Kadiam said.
Department officials are in the process of drafting a common menu for all the residential schools, which will have now have a non-vegetarian dish on their menu every Sunday. The Deputy CM directed officials to submit a report on the development of the Study Circles in a fortnight.
