School teachers from Telangana and other States have called for ‘Chalo Delhi’, a protest programme, on February 5 demanding the withdrawal of the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirement for in-service teachers.

Addressing a meeting at PRTU TS office here on Friday, All India Federation of Teachers Organisations (AIFTO) executive president and Teachers’ MLC Pingili Sripal Reddy said the recent Supreme Court verdict mandates even currently serving teachers to clear the TET in order to continue in service.

Reddy said that although the issue had been

raised several times with the Central government, no action had been taken so far. “As a result, teacher associations across the country have come together to launch a nationwide protest under the joint platform,” he said.

The Teachers’ MLC said a one-day protest will be held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on February 5 and urged all school teachers to participate in large numbers.

PRTU TS president P Damodar Reddy and general secretary Sunkari Bixam Goud, audit committee chairman Somireddy Srinivas Reddy, and representatives from various districts also attended the meeting.
