The state government on Thursday issued orders to relax the admission requirements for the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) 2020.

Instead of 45 percent marks, students who passed the midterm exam and qualified for the admission test are now eligible for admission.  The government’s intention to conclude the minimum qualifying marks comes as a one-off measure following coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, according to the TS EAMCET notice, candidates must achieve at least 45 percent marks (40 percent in the case of candidates belonging to the reserved category) in the specified topics along with a 10 + 2 pattern except for BPharmacy course.

In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the state government passed all candidates of the Intermediate Public Advanced Supplementary Examinations without taking the exams, and they scored minimum

marks.  However, several students who qualified for the TS EAMCET could not achieve the rankings because they did not meet the 45 percent admission requirements in the meantime.

‘The government after thorough investigation into the matter and in the light of the extraordinary circumstances as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state, decided that sub-clause (ii) of Clause-2 as contemplated under the TS EAMCET-2020 examination notice does not apply to the students who have passed 10 + 2 examination and who have qualified for TS EAMCET 2020 and also decided to instruct the TS EAMCET 2020 authorities to allow such students to appear for counseling in respect of TS EAMCET (Admissions) -2020, without insisting on the criteria for qualifying examination marks.  This order applies only to this year, ie 2020-2021 as a special case, and will not be set as a precedent in the future, and will not be applied from 2021-2022, “reads the order.
