Protests by staff of 197 Model Schools, demanding that the State government address their long-pending issues, entered the second day on Saturday. Following a call by the Model Schools Joint Action Committee (JAC), the staff staged lunch-break protests in schools across the State, with teachers wearing black badges.

The steering committee members — Bhootham Yakamallu, Tarala Jagadish, Kondaiah and Raju — demanded that the government pay their salaries under the 010 head of account. They also sought compassionate appointments and gratuity and

family pension benefits for the families of deceased teachers.

Other demands raised by the Model Schools staff included notional benefits for trained graduate teachers, release of arrears towards five pending DA instalments and implementation of GO 317 to provide promotions to eligible teachers.

The JAC said the protests would continue in the coming days as per its previously announced schedule. It warned that a State-level protest would be organised in Hyderabad on November 17 if the government failed to address their demands.
