State universities in Telangana have got some relief at the time of Pandemic in regards to the academics. As per the official notification, the students from Intermediate semesters don’t have to attend the final exams. On the other hand, the final-year UG, PG exams, which were scheduled from July 20, 2020, has been postponed. The final decision on the cancellation of final-year exams will be taken soon. As UGC has released the revised guidelines for final-year exams, the state government is expected to go ahead with the exams.

The decision to hold the final-year degree exams comes following University Grants Commission’s (UGC) direction to conduct the examinations by the end of September. In the coming days, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) will hold a meeting with authorities of the State universities and a detailed schedule for exams will be released. The exams will be held in offline mode i.e. pen and paper mode.

As per UGC guidelines, students of the terminal semester/final year

who are unable to appear for the exams would be given an opportunity to appear in special exams whenever such exams are conducted by universities.

According to estimates, there are around 1.50 lakh final year students in conventional degree courses, while 50,000 to 60,000 in UG professional programmes under various universities.
The exams will be conducted for two hours instead of three hours and the universities will give ample choice among the questions in the exams without reducing the question paper standard. For example, students of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad will be asked to write any five out of eight questions and there will be no compulsory section with short answer questions.

“We are planning to conduct final year exams of both UG and PG courses in the second week or third week of August. Final year exams for the UG courses will be conducted first followed by the PG exams. Before the end of September, the exams will be conducted and results will be announced,” sources said.
