In the recent development regarding the NEET reservation row in Tamil Nadu, the state government has issued a Government Order (GO) on the immediate implementation of a 7.5 percent horizontal reservation for NEET-qualified State Government school students in medical admissions.

The GO issued by the state government has demanded the implementation of the 7.5 percent reservation across medical colleges from this academic year itself. The GO has been issued at a time when Governor Banwarilal Purohit had demanded more time to go through the bill.

The TN cabinet had unanimously passed a bill for reserving 7.5 percent for government school students who had studied from class 6 to 12 in a government school and had cleared NEET exams. It was said that this reservation will help nearly 300 government school students to get medical seats.

Speaking yesterday, Thol Thirumavalavan had also demanded the government pass a GO to bring the reservation into effect from this academic year.

The

Tamil Nadu Assembly had on September 15 unanimously passed a bill to provide a 7.5 percent horizontal quota in medical admissions for state government school students who clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the state governor is yet to give his approval to this bill.

Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami also expressed his confidence in the governor, stating that he will soon be approving the bill which will provide a 7.5 percent reservation in medical colleges to students from government schools who have cleared the NEET examination.

DMK leader MK Stalin had also written a letter to the state governor, asking him to approve the reservation bill for the students who come from government schools and are aspiring to be doctors but don’t have enough facilities.

Further, MK Stalin has also promised to the citizens of Tamil Nadu that the DMK government will stop the NEET examinations in the state once they form a government, as Tamil Nadu has been in a state of turmoil since the NEET exams started.
