The Tamil Nadu government has issued a Standard Operating procedure (SOP) for students of classes 10, 11 and 12 to attend school from October 1 on a voluntary basis in order to take help from their teachers. This is applicable for students studying in government, government-aided or private schools, which are outside containment zones.

Tamil Nadu has reported multiple cases of student suicides as several students took the

extreme step after being unable to follow online classes.

As per the government guidelines, from September 21 students of classes 9 to 12 in non-containment zones will have the option of attending classes remotely/virtually or physically only on a voluntary basis for guidance from their teachers subject to written permission of parent or guardian.

The central government also issued an SOP for the same.
