The Director of School Education, Kashmir, has announced that schools will reopen tomorrow, May 13, 2025, except for those in border districts of Kupwara and Baramulla, and the Gurez sub-division in Bandipora. This decision comes after the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. Earlier, the closure was ordered as a precautionary measure due to the exchange of fire between India and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Schools in five bordering districts in Punjab, as well as in Sangrur, were ordered to close on May 12. While the academic institutions in the rest of the state were reopened today, May 12. The authorities in Pathankot, Amritsar,
Ferozepur, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts that lie on the border with Pakistan have ordered schools to remain shut. Punjab shares a 553-kilometre border with Pakistan, covering five districts including Fazilka. Education Minister Harjot Bains stated that if any university has already revised its examination schedule, the revised dates will remain in effect.
India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to cease all military actions, following the most severe confrontation between the two countries in decades. The escalation was triggered by a terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which left 26 dead.
