Considering the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases, Puducherry schools will remain closed for classes 1 to 8 till May 31, the state government announced. However, classes from 9th to 12th shall be conducted for 5 days a week.

As per the government notification, this directive is for all schools state board, CBSE, and ICSE. The suggestions were offered by the High Level Covid Vaccine Committee held under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Lt Governor

on Thursday.

Earlier, a panel of the Puducherry health department had recommended that the government should close all the schools in the union territory for the time being as a ‘temporary' measure to keep track of the Covid-19 situation and the spike in the cases in the area.

Puducherry schools had been reopened in phases since January this year, after being shut down for nearly one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.
