Every year on September 5, India observes National Teachers’ Day to honour educators and commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s second President and a distinguished scholar and teacher. The day celebrates the invaluable contribution of teachers in nurturing minds, inspiring students, and shaping the future generations of the nation.

This year, President of India Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Teachers Awards 2026 on 48 school teachers at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Teachers Day, September

5.

The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education organises the national-level awards every year to recognise teachers who have made a notable contribution to school education and the lives of their students.

In 2026, the 48 teachers were selected through a three-stage selection process at the district, state and national levels. The awardees come from 27 states, seven Union Territories and six organisations of the Central Government.

Of the 48 selected teachers, 26 are male and 22 are female.
