Parliament panel to review coaching centres amid rising student stress and concerns

Amid a worrying rise in student suicides linked to academic pressure, a parliamentary panel has decided to have a closer look at the rapid expansion of coaching centres and the social challenges associated with the competitive exam ecosystem. The Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports will also assess how emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), are reshaping learning and impacting students.

A recent Lok Sabha bulletin outlined



the committee’s agenda for 2025–26, which includes a review of the PM Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme. As part of its mandate, the panel will evaluate the spread of coaching institutions, the pressures they create, and whether current regulations are adequate.

Concerns have intensified in the wake of several suicides among students preparing for entrance exams, many of which have been reported from Kota in Rajasthan, the country’s biggest hub for coaching institutes.
