The National Medical Commission (NMC) has warned students against the “misleading” advertisement issued by Singhania University for MBBS admissions and announced that any admission made in medical courses in the university is illegal and void. NMC said that the university violates the Indian Medical Council Act and has no right to offer admission in MBBS.

“It has recently come to the notice of the National Medical Commission that Singhania University, Pacheri Bari, District, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan is inviting applications for MBBS and other medical course,” said an official notifce from NMC.

According to NMC, the university is inviting online applications for MBBS on the basis of a high court judgment in a separate case. NMC explained that the university in Rajasthan claims that the High Court in the case of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has held that there is no provision in the IMC Act which authorizes and empowers Board of Governors- Medical Council of India (BoG-MCI) to grant permission or recognition to IGNOU to enable it to take admission and impart education in MBBS and other medical

courses.

“The said institution mischievously claims that it is covered by a judgment of the High Court without referring to the cause title and the Court that has pronounced it,” Samir Sinha, Deputy Secretary of the Government of India said in the notice. NMC termed the university’s claim as “baseless, frivolous” and “in complete violation of law made by the Parliament.

“It may be noted that the claim so made by the Singhania University is in violation of the provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 and also NMC Act, 2019 and the regulations framed there under. Accordingly, any admissions that are made by the Singhania University, Pacheri Bari, District Jhunhunu, Rajasthan in the course of medicine (MBBS) is illegal and void ab initio,” NMC warned.

NMC informed students that the updated list of medical colleges is available on the NMC website along with the status of the college and number of seats approved or permitted. “All students, parents, general public are advised to check the status of medical colleges before taking admission in any of the medical colleges,” it further said.
