The Office of Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai has announced that all government, private, and municipal schools and colleges across Mumbai will remain closed on July 7, 2026, as the city continues to grapple with heavy monsoon rainfall. Educational institutions had also remained shut on July 6 due to heavy rain and strong winds.
The closure has been ordered as a precautionary measure following the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Orange Alert for Mumbai, which forecasts heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.
The decision
comes after relentless showers over the past few days triggered widespread waterlogging, tree-fall incidents, and traffic disruptions across several parts of the city. With the IMD warning of continued adverse weather, authorities have urged residents to step out only if necessary and to follow official weather advisories.
Civic agencies have also been directed to remain on high alert and respond promptly to any rain-related emergencies. While educational institutions will remain closed, government and private offices will continue to function as usual.
