US Vice President Kamala Harris announced that, if elected president, she plans to reduce college degree requirements for certain federal jobs.
Harris, who is competing in the November 5 election against Republican former President Donald Trump, aims to broaden access to federal employment opportunities by recognising alternative paths to success, such as apprenticeships and technical programmes.
In a speech delivered in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Harris stated, "As
president, I will get rid of the unnecessary degree requirements for federal jobs to increase jobs for folks without a four-year degree."
She argued that a college degree does not necessarily reflect an individual’s skills and challenged the private sector to adopt similar practices.
The initiative is part of Harris' broader effort to appeal to working-class voters and improve access to job opportunities for people who may not have pursued traditional higher education.
