Medical interns in Jammu and Kashmir will now receive Rs 25,000 per month, up from Rs 12,300, following a government order issued on October 21. The increase applies to MBBS and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) interns, including Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), across the Union Territory.

According to Government Order No. 747-JK(HME) of 2026, issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, the revised stipend will take effect from October 1, 2026. The order was issued after a reference to the Finance Department's communication dated October 20.

The decision marks a substantial increase in the monthly amount paid to medical interns, who had raised concerns over their stipend and demanded better

compensation for their work.

The revised monthly stipend of Rs 25,000 is more than double the earlier amount of Rs 12,300. The order covers interns pursuing both medical and dental training, along with foreign medical graduates completing their internships in Jammu and Kashmir.

The government has directed the relevant departments and institutions to take note of the revised amount. Copies of the order have been sent to principals of government medical colleges across the Union Territory, as well as the Government Dental Colleges in Srinagar and Jammu.

The order has been issued by the Jammu and Kashmir government through its Health and Medical Education Department.
