Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has changed its examination rules to help final-year students who have pending backlog papers complete their degrees sooner. Under the revised rules, eligible final-year students can appear for compartment examinations immediately after completing their final semester or annual examinations. Earlier, students had to wait for the next regular examination cycle to clear their backlog papers.

The changes were approved by the University's Executive Council through an amendment to Ordinance-15. The move is aimed at helping students complete their courses without unnecessary delays.

According to the revised provisions, students in the final semester or final year under the annual system can take compartment examinations for backlog papers from any previous semester or academic year. The Office of the Controller of Examinations will announce the examination schedule

separately.

The university said the new rule will apply only to students enrolled in regular programmes. Students studying through the distance education mode will not be covered under this provision.

The amendment to Clause 24.4 of Ordinance-15 states that compartment examinations will generally not be held for programmes under the carry-over system. However, an exception has been made for final-year students.

The Executive Council has also approved changes to the re-evaluation process. Under the revised Clause 23.1 of Ordinance-15, final-year students can choose to appear in the compartment examination instead of applying for re-evaluation of their answer scripts.

Students in other semesters or academic years will continue to have the option of applying for re-evaluation within 15 days of the declaration of results, according to the existing rules.
