Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Center (IN-SPACe), in collaboration with ISRO, NCVET and Amity University Noida, Uttar Pradesh, commenced a short-term skill development course titled 'Essentials of Space Technology in Agriculture Sector', on July 27, 2025 aimed at introducing non-governmental entities and academia to the applications of space technology in agriculture.

The week-long course, running from July 27 to August 1, 2025, will cover topics ranging from remote sensing and satellite data analysis to their direct application in crop monitoring and resource management.

Former Member of Parliament Shri Rajendra Agarwal attended the inauguration as Chief Guest Dr Vinod Kumar, Director of the Promotion Directorate at IN-SPACe, addressed the gathering and highlighted how such programmes can help connect classroom learning with real-world use of space technology in sectors like agriculture.

Dr Kumar, in his keynote address,

explained that satellites and space-based tools can assist farmers in several areas, from monitoring crop health to managing resources more efficiently.

With access to remote sensing and geospatial data, farmers can track changes in weather, soil conditions, and crop performance.

These insights can reduce input waste, improve planning, and support early detection of problems such as pest infestations.

He said, “We’re not just teaching theory here. The idea is to bring this knowledge to practice. Agriculture is deeply tied to climate and terrain, and space tools give us better visibility into both.”

Participants in the course will learn to interpret satellite images, use GPS-based tools for fieldwork, and apply digital data for decision-making in agriculture.

The goal is to create a pool of professionals who understand how India’s space infrastructure can support rural development and food security.
