Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced a new Master of Science (MSc) in Home Science with specialisation in Community Development and Extension Management. It is a two-year course for graduates who want to work in the development industry, overseeing community projects related to health, employment, education, and social change.
The course is provided by the School of Continuing Education and will be taught in English through Open Distance Learning (ODL). It's for Home Science graduates but also for others in Social Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, and other disciplines who desire to work at the community level.
The students will study
various subjects like community organization, development communication, maternal and child health, gender, and field research. The course is run for two years with a mix of theory and practice.
During the first year, the students will be studying development theory, community organizing, media and development, and ICT communication tools. They will also have a field practice project and can take electives in gender or rural development.
The second year has topics like training and development, child and mother health, social behavior, and research methodology. There is also a research project covered in the course. The students have to achieve 80 credits to graduate.
