The Directorate of Medical Education, Telangana, hosts the admissions and counselling process for the state medical colleges in Telangana. Some of the government medical colleges in Telangana are: Gandhi Medical College, Osmania Medical College, Kakatiya Medical College, Government Medical College, Nizamabad, Government Medical College, Suryapet, among others.
On the other hand, private medical colleges include Bhaskar Medical College, Chalmeda Anand Rao Institute of Medical Sciences, MNR Medical College & Hospital, Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences, Malla Reddy Institute of Medical
Sciences, and Mamata Medical College.
As of 2021, there are 35 medical colleges and hospitals (12 government + 23 private) in Telangana with an intake capacity of 5240 MBBS seats and 2237 PG Seats. The data was tabled in the Lok Sabha by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on December 3, 2021. The government has also set up an AIIMS in Bibinagar.
These are some of the medical colleges in the state that have secured a place in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2024. In the rankings 2024, only the government college, Osmania Medical College, was ranked and secured 48.
