Even as the heat wave conditions continue to prevail across the State, the junior colleges are set to commence their new academic year 2026-27 on Monday. However, parents and government junior lecturers urged the State government to postpone the reopening of colleges by at least a week, citing concerns over students? health and safety in view of present weather conditions.
The government junior lecturers association and parents wanted the government to put off colleges reopening until June 6 and schedule the classes commencement on June
8.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday, the Government Minority Lecturers Association said considering IMD heat wave warning, universities, including Osmania University and Kakatiya University, have already announced extension of summer vacation for colleges under their jurisdiction.
The government should also extend the holidays for all junior colleges under the Intermediate Education department by a week, said Syed Zabee, president of the Government Minority Lecturers Association.
