The Ministry of Education, in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission and NITI Aayog, has rolled out the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025, described as India’s largest student innovation movement.
Targeting school students from classes 6 to 12, the initiative seeks to inspire young minds to design, innovate and address real-life challenges through creativity and teamwork.
Students participating in the buildathon will develop ideas and prototypes around four central themes of national importance:
. Atmanirbhar Bharat – creating self-reliant systems and solutions
. Swadeshi – fostering indigenous innovation
. Vocal for Local – boosting local products, crafts and resources
. Samriddhi – paving the way for prosperity and sustainable
growth
According to the Ministry, the movement goes beyond being a competition. It is positioned as a platform for experiential learning, helping students apply classroom knowledge to real-world contexts while nurturing problem-solving, innovation, and collaboration skills.
To participate, schools must submit entries in the form of photos and videos, which will be assessed by a national panel of experts. The most promising teams will win prizes and, importantly, will also receive long-term mentorship and corporate adoption opportunities to scale their ideas further.
Special emphasis is being placed on inclusivity, with participation drives in aspirational districts, tribal belts, and remote areas to ensure that innovation reaches every corner of India.
