President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday highlighted the transformative role of education in empowering tribal communities and called upon educated individuals to actively help people access government welfare schemes. She stressed that awareness at the grassroots level is essential for inclusive development.

Addressing the Antarrajyiy Jansanskritik Samagam Samaroh–Kartik Jatra, an interstate folk cultural gathering in Gumla district of Jharkhand, the President said education not only shapes personality and creates opportunities but also strengthens social justice and inclusion.

She expressed concern that many educated individuals choose to settle in urban areas and lose touch with their villages. Urging them to remain connected to their roots, Murmu said that while governments implement schemes, their success depends on people being informed about them.

“Development reaches its goal only when citizens understand and use these welfare initiatives,” she noted.

Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to tribal welfare, the

President said the government is working towards ensuring development reaches the most marginalised sections of society. She referred to multiple initiatives launched under the name of Birsa Munda, aimed at improving access to housing, drinking water, roads, schools and other basic amenities for tribal populations.

Murmu also emphasised the need to preserve tribal culture and traditions while pursuing progress. She encouraged young people to move ahead on the path of development without losing their cultural identity and heritage.

President Murmu is currently on a three-day visit to Jharkhand. On Monday, she attended the 22nd Santali Parsi Maha (language day) and the centenary celebrations of the Ol Chiki script in Jamshedpur’s Karandih area. She also presided over the 15th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) on the same day.

Earlier on Tuesday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, along with his wife and MLA Kalpana Soren, met the President at Lok Bhawan in Ranchi. Murmu departed for Delhi later in the afternoon.
