The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently announced via a press release that 560 universities in India have complied with the UGC guidelines and have conducted or have plans to conduct final examinations for terminal semester students this year.

The press release was released by the UGC on Saturday, and it stated that out of the 560 universities who have announced their decision regarding the conduction of exams, 360 universities will be holding exams in August or September, and the rest have already conducted the exams.

In the official statement, UGC said, “Out of 945 Universities (as per the list maintained by UGC till 01-06-2020) the responses were obtained from 755 Universities (120 Deemed Universities, 274 Private Universities, 40 Central Universities and 321 State Universities).”

It further added that out of the 755

Universities, 560 Universities have either conducted the examination or are planning to conduct exams.

UGC released the updated guidelines for the conduction of examination in the university, stating that all universities across the country must conduct the final exams for terminal semester students this year, which received a lot of backlash from students.

The commission also referred to exams as an integral part of the education system. They said that exams are essential for students who are seeking admissions in overseas universities and higher educational institutes.

The new UGC guidelines have asked universities to conduct exams in online or offline mode by September 2020. This decision has received a lot of criticism from state governments and students across the nation, who have written to the central government voicing their concerns.
