Schools and Colleges of Meghalaya to be shut till March 31 amid coronavirus threat

With the steep increase in the number of Novel Coronavirus cases around the country, the Meghalaya government has directed all the schools and colleges to shutdown till March 31. The state government has also advised schools or college authorities to cancel or postpone any major sports event till the above defined date.

The announcement was made by the Health Minister of the state, A L Hek, in a suo-moto statement during the Budget



Session in the Assembly.

The order will be made effective from Tuesday; i.e March 17, 2020.

"All educational institutions within the state shall remain closed except for holding of examinations," he said.

The Minister has also requested people to not visit places where the chances of catching infection is high due to large gathering of public such as cinemas, gymnasiums, swimming pools and others.
