Ten leading Russian government institutions including those offering medical and engineering courses will be participating in an education fair scheduled to be held here on June 10.

The second edition of Russian Education Fair in Hyderabad will be held at Hotel Marigold Hotel from 10 am to 5 pm. The entry is free and spot admissions will be given to students who furnish valid credentials supporting their eligibility to pursue bachelor’s or post graduate degree courses.

There are no pre-qualifying exams such as common entrance test and IELTS, etc. for admissions to universities in Russia. However, students who wish to pursue medicine from a Russian university should clear the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). This year, seats for Indian students to study in English medium in Russian varsities have been increased from 3,000 to 5,000.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Gennady Rogalev, vice-consul (Cultural), Consulate General of

the Russian Federation in South India, said Indian students in Russian universities was steadily increasing every year.

“India and Russia share strong bilateral relations for ages. Pacts in fields such as space research, engineering, technology, bio-chemistry, medicine, etc. require a large number of well-trained personnel. Indian students receiving higher education in Russia will be best choices as their exposure to both worlds will be a good basis for supporting each other and growing bilaterally,” Rogalev said.

The duration of the engineering courses in Russian universities is four years. In case of Russian medium, it is preceded by a one-year preparatory course. Likewise, the duration of medical course is six years in English medium and seven years in Russian medium which includes one-year intense preparatory programme. Presently, about 15,000 Indian students are pursuing various courses in the Russian universities.
