NMC cautions medical colleges against fake recognition letters

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a stark warning to medical colleges regarding counterfeit recognition letters for postgraduate programmes.

The official statement, posted on the NMC's website, reveals an unscrupulous distributor allegedly using the digital signature of Dr Vijay Oza, President of the Post Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB), to propagate the fake letters.

According to the notice, certain medical colleges have claimed receipt of these forged documents.

The statement reads, "Fake/forged letters of recognition under the forged signature



of Dr Vijay Oza, president PGMEB, have been claimed to be received by a few medical colleges."

To counter the deception, NMC has offered clear advice on how to authenticate legitimate correspondence from PGMEB or NMC. Official communications are sent through a unified email protocol, and additionally dispatched via speed post for verifiable assurance.

NMC has thus urged all stakeholders, including medical colleges, “not to fall into the trap of any such fake letters of recognition/renewal of recognition if the same is not received through the dedicated email from PGMEB, NMC or by post from NMC.”
