Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) which so far offered various professional and conventional courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level, has decided to spread its wings. The university will soon offer various courses in the foreign languages.

To start with, the university intends to commence certificate courses in Russian, German, French, Japanese, Chinese and Pashto languages. Gradually, it plans to scale up the programmes by offering diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate level as well.

To offer these foreign languages, the Central University is drawing plans to set up a new School of Foreign Languages on the campus. Presently, the university is offering Arabic and Persian to the students at various levels.

“Offering courses in the foreign languages is in the pipeline. Urdu and foreign languages have unique combinations. To start with, we will have certificate courses in Russian and French as the faculty are readily available with us. Gradually, we will invite a German professor to start the German language course. 

Very soon, there will be a School of Foreign Languages, on the campus,



which will be a separate entity,” MANUU Vice Chancellor Prof Syed Ainul Hasan told.

Apart from new courses in the foreign languages, the university is also drawing up plans to introduce more professional programmes. In the offing are diploma and undergraduate programmes in Nursing. These programmes will be offered in collaboration with other institutions and on the university campus only.

As part of the new National Education Policy 2020, the university is on the job of introducing new and various skill development courses which are industry oriented and job ready.

“On the basis of the recommendations of the NEP, the university will have a separate department for skill development courses. The syllabus for various skill development courses is being designed. Once it is approved by the various academic bodies, we will make it public,” the MANUU VC said.

Meanwhile, the Central University is gearing up for recruitment of faculty members at various levels in different departments. “The university will soon notify 60 vacant posts under the reserved categories,” Prof Ainul Hasan added.
