The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), on March 17, 2020, Tuesday, decided to stop all of its academic activities and schedules till March 31, 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak. The director of IIT Bombay, Subhasis Chouhuri, held an emergency meeting with the heads of departments in the light of increasingly stringent measures being taken by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the state

administration to control the spread of the virus.

It is also likely that the entry to and exit from the campus will be heavily restricted after about 72 hours so students are advised to vacate the hostels by Friday night, a note by the administration.

It has asked the students who cannot proceed home must take special permission from the dean to continue to remain in the hostel.
