Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, ceremoniously distributed scooters to high-achieving students under the Pragyan Bharati scheme during an event at the Veterinary College field in Khanapara, Guwahati, on Thursday. The award, instituted in memory of great litterateur and linguist Banikanta Kakati, entered its sixth year as 35770 students were given scooters under the scheme in 2023.

In his address, CM Sarma highlighted the government's commitment to empowering youth through education. The initiative aimed at providing seamless facilities for students to pursue their studies led to the distribution of scooters to those who secured 60 percent and 75 percent in the higher secondary examinations of 2023.

"I sincerely hope the scooty



presented in recognition of the good academic performance of the students will motivate them to do better in the future as well," added the Chief Minister.

Encouraging students to focus on their goals despite obstacles, the Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to providing more support to the student community. He disclosed plans to expand the Pragyan Bharati scheme to include additional benefits such as free scooters, textbooks, and subsidised hostel fees.

For the financial year 2023-24, the Assam government plans to distribute scooters to 35,770 eligible students, with 30,203 being girl students securing the first division and 5,567 boys achieving 75 percent or above in the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by AHSEC in 2023.
