As per the annual summer practice, half-day classes will be conducted in all schools of Andhra Pradesh starting from Monday, according to an official statement released on Saturday.

Students from Classes 1 to 9 will have classes from 7:45 am to 12:30 pm until the last working day on April 30. However, schools that are exam centres hosting the AP SSC exams will not conduct classes on exam days.

In case of such instances, the affected schools will conduct compensatory classes for six days on available public holidays from April 3 to 30, following the same half-day schedule, according to the statement made by S Suresh Kumar, Commissioner of School Education.

Furthermore, the second Saturday of April, which is usually a holiday, will be a working day for

schools this year, as per Kumar's instructions.

To account for the extreme heat that students would be exposed to while attending classes during the summer season, the commissioner has directed officials to provide adequate drinking water supplies, with the support of the gram panchayats and RWS department.

Additionally, he has instructed the authorities to avoid conducting classes in open areas or under trees and to keep some oral rehydration solution (ORS) sachets in every school to be used in the event of a sunstroke.

Furthermore, Kumar has advised officials to provide buttermilk along with mid-day meals, with the latter being supplied at the end of classes. The directive aims to keep the students hydrated and refreshed during their half-day classes.
