EAMCET results to be deferred

Sat 27 Apr 2019, 10:51:25
The results of Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) 2019 will be deferred until completion of re-verification and re-counting of answer scripts. The decision was taken by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) on Friday as 25 per cent weightage is given to Intermediate marks in the EAMCET ranks.

Recently, the State government had announced free re-counting and re-verification of all failed students in the Intermediate Public Examinations (IPE) 2019 given complaints of discrepancies in the results. The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) was directed to release results of re-counting and re-verification at the earliest.

Discrepancies came to light as several students who appeared for IPE were either marked absent or awarded low scores. At least 2,890 students

were declared failed in a subject even after scoring between 750 and 900 and some even scoring more than 900. There were instances of students being marked both absent and passed in a particular subject, while in some cases practical marks were not awarded despite taking the exams.

This situation has created apprehensions among students as weightage is given for EAMCET ranks and delay in announcement of re-verification and re-counting results will take a toll on their rank in the entrance test. Prof T Papi Reddy, TSCHE Chairman, said, “As EAMCET is held in the computer based test mode, the results can be announced within a week. However, the council has decided to defer it till announcement of results of re-verification and re-counting of IPE,” he said.
