Even with schools shut for the summer, support for students isn’t taking a vacation. The Delhi government's summer counselling programme has officially begun in its schools to help Class 10 and Class 12 students deal with emotional stress, academic pressure, and make better career choices.

Organised by the Educational and Vocational Guidance Counsellors (EVGCs), the initiative kicked off on May 14 and will continue till May 31. The goal is to offer mental health support, academic guidance, and a safe space for students to discuss anything from exam anxiety to bullying or substance use.

Students at a crucial academic stage often carry the stress home, even during holidays. That’s why this counselling is focused

specifically on Classes 10 and 12, offering guidance on emotional issues, bullying, education decisions and career options.

A circular from the Delhi Education Department said, "The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to provide consistent psychological and academic guidance to students even when regular classes are not in session."

School heads are required to collect this data and send it to their District Counsellor-in-Charges (CICs). The compiled district-wise reports will then go to the EVGC Branch (EVGB).

Meanwhile, regular counsellors working during the summer will be given earned leave as per Central Civil Services rules, while guest counsellors will be paid according to standard norms.
