With air pollution in Delhi-NCR entering the severe category, the Centre has implemented Stage 3 measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). As part of the new directives, schools up to Class 5 have been instructed to adopt a hybrid learning model, allowing parents and students to opt for online classes wherever facilities are available.
The move comes after Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) surged from 362 on November 10 to 425 on Monday morning. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) noted that calm winds and stagnant weather conditions have trapped pollutants near the surface, aggravating the smog situation.
In its order dated November 11, 2025, the
CAQM directed urgent measures to prevent further deterioration of air quality in Delhi-NCR.
“Accordingly, in an effort to prevent further deterioration of the air quality, the sub-committee on GRAP hereby decides to invoke all actions under Stage-II (‘Severe’ Air Quality) of the extant GRAP schedule, with immediate effect in right earnest by all agencies concerned in Delhi NCR, in addition to Stage-I and II actions already in force,” the order stated.
Authorities have urged residents to limit outdoor activities, particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, while agencies work to implement the prescribed measures across the region.
