Biometric system mandatory for colleges

Mon 21 Jan 2019, 12:26:53
Biometric attendance is going to be made compulsory for teachers and also undergraduate students in engineering colleges affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru University; otherwise the affiliation for the academic year 2019-20 will be cancelled.

Biometric systems have not been introduced in most of the colleges and it was found that paper attendance was leading to a lot of manipulations as teachers were taking leave by signing on the forms and not teaching in classes.

There have been ‘informal complaints’ made to the department about teachers taking duty leave without informing the administration.

For this reason, colleges and special centres have been asked to install the biometric system and ensure that teachers and undergraduates punch in their attendance.

The system exists for post-graduates and the administration department but the other faculty had not been enrolled in the system, stated senior officials in the higher education department. For duty leave, written permission is must.
