The Karnataka government has announced that Bengaluru City University will be renamed Dr Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, in honor of the former Prime Minister of India, who passed away on February 26. This decision was revealed during the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's budget speech on Friday in the Legislative Assembly. The initiative seeks to transform the institution into a model university in the
country. As a part of this initiative, Government Arts College and Government RCC College will be merged as a constituent college under the university.
Apart from this, the state government has announced that 15 women's colleges will be built on vacant Waqf land in 2024-25 to enhance higher education opportunities for minority women. Additionally, 16 more women's colleges will be established in 2025-26.
