The Union government will establish 100 new Sainik Schools across India through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Thursday.

Addressing the inauguration of the Motibhai R Chaudhary Sagar Sainik School (MRCSSS) and the Sagar Organic Plant via video conference, Shah said these newly planned schools will create pathways for students, particularly from several districts in Gujarat to join the armed forces.

Built at a cost of Rs50 crore, the MRC Sagar Sainik School is equipped with modern facilities including smart classrooms, hostels, a library, and a canteen, according to an official release. Shah said the school will stand as a “symbol of pride” for Mehsana under the Centre’s larger plan to open 100 such institutions.

Shah also highlighted the significance of the Sagar Organic Plant, saying it will help deliver reliable organic products under the Amul brand across India and abroad, while ensuring farmers involved in organic cultivation earn fair returns.

The plant, with a daily processing capacity of 30 metric tonnes, is certified under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) and by APEDA, enabling farmers in north Gujarat to tap into global markets.

The Union Cooperation Minister said the expansion of this plant will boost citizens’

health and improve the incomes of farmers practising organic agriculture. He encouraged farmers and their families to adopt organic products for better wellbeing.

Recalling the growth of Dudhsagar Dairy, Shah noted that milk collection has increased from 3,300 litres per day in 1960 to 35 lakh litres per day today. The dairy now connects cattle-rearers from 1,250 villages in Gujarat and more than 10 lakh milk production groups across Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. Its turnover has reached Rs8,000 crore, supported by eight modern dairies, two chilling centres, cattle feed plants, and a cement unit making it a crucial part of Gujarat’s White Revolution.

Shah added that several initiatives are underway to boost the dairy’s circular economy, including the creation of 75,000 new primary dairy cooperative societies nationwide. He said the Modi government aims to ensure that 50% of milk produced by cooperatives reaches national and global markets to benefit cattle-rearers.

He also pointed out that women contribute nearly 70 percent of Amul’s total turnover.

Referring to the recent unseasonal rains in Gujarat, Shah commended the Bhupendra Patel government for announcing a comprehensive relief package to support affected farmers, reaffirming the state’s commitment to helping its farming community.
